What is the LNAT? Why is it used?
The LNAT, or Law National Admissions Test, is a critical thinking test designed to test a candidate’s apititude for the study of Law. It lasts for 2hrs 15 mins and is in 2 parts (Section A and Section B). Section A consists of multiple choice questions and Section B requires candidates to write an essay in response to one of three questions.
In 2004, the LNAT was introduced because many top universities were struggling to differentiate between the best applicants – many candidates have top A Level grade predictions and high quality personal statements so universities needed another way to find the best!
Accordingly, the LNAT plays a key part in the admissions process and it is very important to do well in it in order to secure your place at one of the LNAT universities.

How can Oxbridge Law Apps help?

The LNAT is very different to any A Level or GCSE exam, it is not based on knowledge but your critical thinking and logical reasoning skills and it is difficult (the average score is just 52%)! However, our tutors are some of the smartest Law Tutors in the country, having graduated from either Oxford or Cambridge.
They are able to teach a number of the skills required and help students in their preparation for the LNAT.
Our Oxbridge Tutors can explain what is required, improve your critical thinking and give you score boosting strategies.
In particular, they can give an in depth analysis of what the LNAT examiners are looking for and how candidates should go about answering questions.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do I book a lesson?
How are your sessions different to other admissions companies?
How are the online lessons scheduled?
After booking the session online, one of our tutors will get back to you within 24 hours (usually much sooner) to schedule the session. We are highly flexible on timing and are able to provide sessions in the day time, evenings and weekends.
Depending on availability, it is also possible to schedule sessions at short notice.
What qualifications do your tutors have?
All our tutors have:
– A full qualifying law degree from either Oxford or Cambridge.
– The ability to communicate clearly, article their points and challenge candidates.
– All LNAT Tutors scored highly in the same LNAT exam that you will be taking and, by virtue of going to Oxbridge, have very strong critical thinking powers.
– Our tutors also inspire students with confidence and encourage them where topics are difficult.
How is the LNAT different to a normal exam and why do I need tuition?
The LNAT is, in essence, a critical thinking test.In Section A, it tests your ability to understand information from an extended passage and make logical deductions and inferences. In Section B, the essay section, it tests your ability to construct a coherent argument and your essay writing skills.
Unlike an A Level where good candidates can get 100%, it is not possible to get 100% in the LNAT. The average mark is around 22/42 (52%) and a mark of 30/42 would be exceptional (70%+).
Finally, the LNAT is not a test of knowledge, but of your skills. However, like with all skills, they can be improved significantly.
